Rogue River - Fishing
Fish runs on the Rogue are second only to those on the Columbia. The Upper Rogue is famous as a late-winter steelhead fishery, and fall and spring chinook runs are also strong. There can be especially excellent fishing on the Rogue below the Cole M. Rivers Hatchery (at Lost Creek Reservoir), where 3.5 million fish (including the above species, plus coho and rainbow trout) are reared and released yearly. There is particularly good access to some 155 miles of the Rogue between Galice, west of Grants Pass, and Lost Creek Reservoir, southwest of Crater Lake. (West of Galice, the river is rafting-heavy much of the year.) Anglers are advised to consult the Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations on gear, seasons, area closures, size and catch limits, and specific species rules.
